Heartbeat of Grand Junction holds monthly meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7 - 9:00 pm at the First Congregational Church, 1425 N. 5th Street in GJ.  The purpose of the meetings is to provide support for those who have lost a loved one through suicide.  Heartbeat was organized to help survivors to absorb the impact of the self-inflicted death; to offer comfort, understanding and acceptance; and to support each other toward healthy resolution to the grief.  Meetings are open to all who have lost a friend or loved one to suicide.


We also hold an informal social gathering on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 1:30 pm at Trader's Coffee,  2648 Patterson Rd.

Nonprofit Sabbatical Program Now Open for Applications

Our nonprofit sabbatical program rewards long-term and respected nonprofit leaders in Colorado.

Successfully leading a nonprofit in today’s world takes endless dedication and time. Nonprofit leaders are often so committed to their missions that spending time away to re-energize can be an afterthought. New this year, the Foundation has developed a nonprofit sabbatical program, now open for applications, to recognize and reward long-term and respected nonprofit leaders in Colorado and strengthen the organizations they lead by offering funds for interim leadership and staff capacity building.

The Foundation will award two sabbaticals annually. Each sabbatical must be taken within 18 months of receipt of the award. The sabbatical award is made in the form of a grant – up to $95,000 – for charitable support to a Colorado-based nonprofit organization and includes:

  1. Grantee executive to take a three-to-four month hiatus for activities of their choice to reflect, rest and rejuvenate:
    • Up to $20,000 for sabbatical activities (e.g., professional development; travel; personal activities)
    • Between $25,000-$50,000 subsidy for salary and benefits (dependent on current salary)
  2. Grantee interim leadership needs (individual or a team):
    • Up to $10,000 dependent on the applicant’s interim plan and mutual agreement
  3. Grantee staff capacity building of their choice:
    • Up to $15,000 to be used during the sabbatical period or up to two years after receipt of the award
    • Organizations will need to demonstrate how staff have been involved in determining use of these funds to ensure that they are used for employee-directed needs

The Foundation has engaged a technical assistance provider, Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF), to provide support to both interested applicants and awarded recipients. Approximately $1.3M will be distributed throughout three upcoming grant cycles. General operating and programmatic grants will be awarded to organizations and programs that:

  • Support the marginalized, the socially and economically disadvantaged
  • Provide resources for achieving and maintaining healthy, independent lives
  • Maintain, nurture and strengthen healthy minds and bodies
  • Offer opportunities for well-being and quality of life

 

Application deadlines are at 5 p.m. on the following dates:

  • October 4, 2019
  • January 10, 2020
  • July 2, 2020

 

Rocky Mountain Health Foundation strives to improve the health of Western Slope Coloradans by promoting the health and well-being of Western Slope communities. “Well-being” includes not only physical and behavioral health-related issues but the factors that can affect one’s health—or the Social Determinants of Health.

 

Rocky Mountain Health Foundation is a responsive grant maker and awards grants to Western Slope-based Colorado nonprofit organizations who have both programmatic services and personnel residing in our service area and align with at least one funding priority:

  • Basic Needs
  • Access to & Affordability of Physical, Oral & Visual Health
  • Access to and Affordability of Social-Emotional-Behavioral Health
  • Community-Based Health Projects
